TURISTING AROUND MÁLAGA & ANDALUCÍA
From coastal cities to white villages and historic landmarks, southern Spain is made for road trips.
Here are our favourite routes depending on how much time you have — excluding the wedding day (that day, you’re ours 🙂). Whether you’re staying just a couple of days or turning this into a full Andalusian adventure, these itineraries are a perfect place to start.
2 Days: Málaga City & Nerja
Art, tapas, and the sea
Perfect if you’re short on time but want to experience the essentials.
Málaga
- Wander through the historic city centre
- Enjoy tapas, wine bars, and lively evenings
- Visit museums, rooftop terraces, and city beaches
+ Nerja (≈ 1 hour from Málaga, and even closer if you’re staying in La Viñuela or Torre del Mar)
- Charming coastal town with dramatic cliffs
- The iconic Balcón de Europa overlooking the sea
- Beautiful beaches and crystal-clear water
4 Days: Málaga, Ronda & Frigiliana (STAYING IN MALAGA)
White villages and mountain views
If you have a few extra days, add these places to your route, it takes you beyond the coast and into the heart of Andalusia, slower, scenic, and incredibly beautiful.
Ronda (≈ 1.5–2 hours from Málaga) You can also go down to Marbella from ronda on the way back.
- One of Spain’s most dramatic towns
- The iconic Puente Nuevo bridge over the El Tajo gorge
- Historic streets, viewpoints, and nearby vineyards
+ Frigiliana+Nerja (≈ 1 hour from Málaga / close to Nerja)
- One of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia
- Narrow streets, flowers, and artisan shops
- Perfect for a slow afternoon wander and sunset views
This itinerary blends coast, countryside, and classic Andalusian charm.
7 Days: Málaga, Granada & Córdoba (+ some of the places mentioned before)
Unforgettable Andalusian history
If you’re turning the wedding into a full trip, this route lets you experience Andalusia at its richest — history, architecture, and unforgettable cities.
Granada
(≈ 1.5–2 hours from Málaga)
- Home to the breathtaking Alhambra (book tickets well in advance)
- Moorish architecture, the Albaicín neighbourhood, and views of the Sierra Nevada
- Atmospheric evenings and traditional tapas
+ Córdoba
(≈ 2 hours from Málaga or Granada)
- The extraordinary Mezquita–Catedral, one of Spain’s most impressive landmarks
- Roman bridges, historic patios, and quiet old-town streets
Alternative option (Seville):
If you prefer a livelier city, you can swap Córdoba for Seville, vibrant, romantic, gorgeous and full of life (and yes, as a Malagueña I probably shouldn’t admit this… but it’s unfortunately true).:
- The Alcázar, Plaza de España, flamenco, and late-night dinners
This route is ideal if you want to slow down, travel by car, and truly soak in Andalusia.
